Frequently asked questions
The Frisson Foundation is a registered charity set up by the Co-Founders Bill and Linda Breckenridge who have built the Scottish Primary School Glee Challenge with a small core of friends and volunteers. From a very small event back in 2013 the Challenge has been steadily managed to include 200 schools from across the country.
Once the registration process including invoicing is complete you will
- be able to access the members zone
- support videos e.g. warm up
- set song resources for both songs- video, lyrics, backing track, workbook exercises and signing resources where applicable
- song/artist choice lists
- be able to access the Facebook private group page - for discussion, update etc
- be able to attend teacher workshops in person and on line support materials
-
The programme is funded through ticket sales for the performance events i.e. the heats, regional and National Finals. This helps cover the costs of Theatre hires, production costs and other associated costs. The Frisson Foundation is a charity and the majority of the team are volunteers.
The only cost to the school is the registration fee which is designed to cover the administrative and other associated support costs.
We want to make participation as accessible as possible so there is no requirement for the choir to be outfitted. Plain, brightly coloured, T shirts will suffice. While some schools arrange for T shirts to be printed etc that is a choice for the school. Judges are not allowed to score outfits.
Firstly, there's no such thing as a 'normal' school choir every choir is unique. However, a Glee Choir also known as a show choir which has to sing, dance and perform.
We have still to conclude certain aspects of our negotiations. However, it is highly anticipated that the following venues will be on the roster
- Alhambra Theatre, Dunfermline
- Beach Ballroom, Aberdeen
- Central halls, Stirling
- Corn Exchange, Edinburgh
- Hamilton Town Hall, Hamilton
- Music Hall, Aberdeen
- Perth Concert Hall
- Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow
- Usher Hall, Edinburgh

a. The theme for the Challenge is ‘Old School to New School’ and for the purposes of the Challenge this is defined as
‘covering artists and bands whose careers have spanned multiple decades – typically three or more (we’ll accept those who are in their decade i.e. had their first hit in the noughties and continue to have hits in the 2020s) – and who have successfully evolved their sound, image or influence to remain relevant and beloved across generations
These artists started in earlier musical eras (‘’old school’’) and continue to resonate with newer audiences (new cool)’’
a. We’ve created a few criteria that may help your choice
o Longevity – when did the artist/band start/form
o Have they had chart success across three or more decades
o Have they evolved over the years e.g. brought in different general genres/styles
o Do they appeal to a cross-generational audience
o Are they still culturally relevant
For Example – OASIS
Longevity – formed in 1991
Chart Success – attained as Oasis and in their solo careers
Genre/Styles – evolved since the early 1990’s albums to now
Cross-Generational audience – recent tour demonstrates the band’s appeal across different generations
Cultural relevance – recent stadium tour has shown that the band is still viewed as relevant
The artist should have success over 3 decades but does not need to be continuing to release music. The argument then is whether the artist's work is still relevant - Michael Jackson would work as would Elvis.
Yes the artist can now be a soloist starting with a band and following that with a solo career e.g. Phil Collins
Yes, The Frisson Foundation is a registered charity
