The Glee Challenge

We organise two or three workshops a year to support choir leaders whose school has entered the Glee Challenge. The sessions are active and 1- 2 hours in length and provide an opportunity to

 

  •  share with people more about the Glee Challenge how it works, the format of the events, the judging criteria and more

  • an introduction to vocal safety, warm up exercises and simple tips regarding choir rehearsals/practice

  • an introduction to simple choreography, getting the choir to work as a group and ideas for teaching

  • creating a learner led choir

  • question and answer session.

Embed Singing to improve Performance

These sessions are school centred sessions and take place at a time and place to suit your school and staff drawn from across the whole school including the school management team.  The session is based around the Singing School initiative but can be used for any school seeking to embed singing within the school curriculum. 

 

The sessions provide an opportunity for participants to

  • develop skills, knowledge and confidence in using music and song as a learning tool

  • look at how to develop, implement and monitor a singing strategy designed to help improve performance in school

  • explore how song can help raise attainment by supporting literacy, numeracy and health and well-being and developing the young workforce.

  • help to create a nurturing, creative and learner led approach to song and music inthe school

  • gain an understanding of what constitutes a singing school

Staff Singing Champion Training

This programme runs a few times a year and is a key element within the singing school initiative. Staff sign up to be the 'song' person for the whole school and the key contact for the singing schools framework.  

 

The Frisson team, you and other song champions from across the sector come together to explore best practice and new ideas for the delivery and embracement of song in their schools. The sessions explore

  • best and innovative practice

  • how to create a nurturing learner led approach to music in a school

  • how to bring together the various aspects of song in the school as part of a cohesive school wide strategy and programme which fits with the wider school curriculum and other external requirements

  • how to use song and dance in raising attainment, supporting literacy, health and well being and developing the young workforce.

  • how best to engage the school community

Choir Leader/helper On-line Courses

Our on-line courses are designed to help staff  gain confidence, knowledge and new ideas in using song with the school curriculum. Each course is broken down into sections which provide a step by step guide for different song and dance exercises, ideas and technique.

The courses are designed to support staff in Scottish Primary Schools (based on CfE). The material can be adapted to be used in any learning environment by anyone wishing to boost their confidence and knowledge in delivering song and dance.
