What the fund can support

Schools may apply for one or more of the following

Travel Grant

For schools that need support with essential travel to a Glee Challenge live event, including sectional heats, regional finals or the National Final.

​

The grant may contribute towards the cost of coach hire, public transport, or other necessary group transport.

 

Priority will be given where distance, rurality or family circumstances make travel unaffordable.

​

Family Access Grant

For schools where families would be unable to afford audience tickets or essential participation costs e.g. non-branded T-shirts

​

This grant can help the school provide a limited number of supported audience tickets, ensuring children can share their performance experience with parents, carers or other important family members (maximum 20 tickets)

Who can apply

Applications are open to primary schools registered, or intending to register, for the Scottish Primary School Glee Challenge.

 

To be eligible, schools should:

• demonstrate a clear financial need;

• show how the grant will enable children to participate who might otherwise miss out;

• commit to using the Glee Challenge as an inclusive opportunity for their wider school community; and

• agree to complete a short evaluation after the event.

 

Applications from schools supporting children affected by poverty, additional support needs, rural transport barriers, or other access challenges are especially encouraged.

How to apply

Complete the Glee Challenge Access Fund application form and tell us:

​

• why your school needs financial support to participate;

• how many children will benefit;

• the barriers your pupils and families face;

• how the Glee Challenge will benefit children, the school and the wider community;

• the amount requested and a simple breakdown of costs; and

• for Travel Grant applications, the expected cost of coach hire, rail travel or other transport.

 

Schools are encouraged to include relevant context, such as the proportion of pupils entitled to other support measures,e.g. free school meals, clothing grants,  rural travel distances, SIMD data, or other evidence of need.

Assessment and awards

Applications will be assessed on:

​

1. Financial need and barriers to participation

2. The number of children likely to benefit

3. The inclusion of children who might otherwise be excluded

4. The wider impact on confidence, wellbeing, school community and access to music

5. Value for money and a clear, realistic budget

 

Awards may cover all or part of the requested amount. Funding is limited, and priority will be given to applications demonstrating the greatest need.

Conditions of funding

Successful schools must:

​

• use the grant only for the approved purpose;

• ensure the supported children take part in the Glee Challenge wherever possible;

• retain evidence of expenditure, including transport invoices or ticket records where applicable;

• complete a short feedback form or impact report after the event; and

• acknowledge the Glee Challenge Access Fund in appropriate school communications.

Our commitment

The Glee Challenge is about much more than performance. It is about giving children a voice, helping them belong, and creating experiences they will remember long after the final note.

 

No child should miss that opportunity because of cost.
